A Fine Musician

Peter Taylor

1939 to 2003

Peter Taylor taught at Dymchurch Primary School for thirty years and always played for their annual Maypole dancing and for the staff's Scottish Country Dancing.

It was a fellow teacher at the School, Brian Lever, a former squire of East Kent Morris Men, that persuaded Peter to come along and play for the Side.

Peter played for the Side, usually without other musical assistance, from 1976 onwards.

His music was the rock upon which East Kent's dance depended yet he was modest and self-deprecating. He was a generous and talented musician who will be sadly missed not only by the Side but also by all who shared and appreciated his love for the tradition and for the music.

Peter contracted legionella, a form of pnuemonia, during his trip with the side to Lille in France and died shortly thereafter. He is greatly missed.
